Apart from these, there are some modified crowns known as pre-contoured crown (also called pre-crimped crowns) is being widely used in the pediatric department.

Types of dental crown:-
* Metal crown- As the name suggests, these are generally strong, durable and long-lasting. These are used to provide strength to the teeth structure. The only concern which people don’t like is their aesthetic look. People prefer to use this in inconspicuous areas.
* Porcelain fused in metal- If aesthetic and strength part is your preference, then you can go with porcelain fused in a metal crown. Here porcelain is used to give the crown a decent appearance without affecting the strength (as it is fused with metal). Although it is not as strong as the metal one yet it is preferred more than metal (obviously due to its look). After a few years of usage, a dark thin line appears at the bottom which eventually affects the natural beauty.
* Ceramic crown- If you belong to that category of people who have allergy due to metal crown then you can go with the ceramic crown. These have the most natural look apart from the above-mentioned; the only drawbacks are that they require frequent repair and replacement. Due to this, they are not long-lasting and durable.

* Stainless steel crowns- These are the caps of metal used by the dentist in a restoration of the decayed, broken or dis-color tooth. They are made to fit the required place by trimming it and thus they are called pre-contoured or pre-crimped crowns. These crown are extremely durable, long-lasting, hence doesn’t require any repairs or replacement like others crown. These are alternative to silver or colour filling tooth, they cover the tooth from the outside and thus provide the required protection. Due to their polished surface, cleaning becomes easy. These are mostly used to restore the teeth of a child.
